MANILA (Mabuhay) — Only a month into the year, 2014 is already shaping up to be Iza Calzado’s busiest as a Kapamilya, with three high-profile projects slated for release in the first quarter alone.
The 31-year-old actress shared her excitement on the sidelines of a pictorial for her upcoming film under Star Cinema, “Starting Over Again,” where she will co-star with Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga.
Admitting she was less visible in 2013, Calzado said: “Sometimes things don’t work out the way you plan …but things always happen when it’s supposed to happen, in the perfect time. And now perhaps this is the perfect time, the start of 2014.”
Last year, Calzado’s role in the romantic-comedy film “It Takes a Man and a Woman,” supposedly her first with Star Cinema as a Kapamilya, had to be recast due to conflicts in schedule. At the time, only a year had passed since she signed with ABS-CBN as an exclusive talent in January 2012.
While Calzado starred in several episodes of the drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya” since her network transfer, her last regular role on television was in the drama series “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan,” which ran for six months until February 2013.
Nowadays, Calzado finds herself juggling several projects, which include the aforementioned “Starting Over Again,” which hits theaters on February 12; the second edition of “The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition”; and the upcoming drama series “Sana Bukas Pa ang Kahapon,” which are both scheduled to premiere in the first quarter of the year.
In “Starting Over Again,” which is directed by Olivia Lamasan (“Milan,” “The Mistress”) and written by Carmi Raymundo (“It Takes a Man and a Woman,” “Bride for Rent”), Calzado portrays Patty, whose relationship with college professor Marco (Pascual) is put to the test when he crosses paths with his ex-girlfriend, Ginny (Gonzaga).
The project is Calzado’s second with both Pascual and Lamasan, whom she previously worked with in “Milan” in 2004. It marks the first time she will be co-starring with Gonzaga, also a former GMA-7 talent.
Filmed for over six months now, “The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition (Doubles),” meanwhile, will be Calzado’s first hosting stint with ABS-CBN. Joining her as co-hosts are Robi Domingo and Matteo Guidicelli, with Jim Saret and Toni Dimaguila as the resident fitness coaches of the contestants.
Set to join ABS-CBN’s primetime line-up in the coming months, “Sana Bukas Pa ang Kahapon” is topbilled by Bea Alonzo, who will portray three characters. Aside from Calzado, who will play a “feisty woman,” the cast also includes Susan Roces, Anita Linda, Ronaldo Valdez, Albert Martinez, Dina Bonnevie, Tonton Gutierrez, Paulo Avelino, and Michelle Vito. The soap, which will start filming in February, is under the direction of Rondel Lindayag and Trina Dayrit. (MNS)
