MANILA (Mabuhay) – Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday lauded Miss Philippines Bea Rose Santiago, for winning the 2013 Miss International pageant in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday.
“I join our ‘kababayans’ in congratulating Ms. Bea Rose Santiago on her being crowned Miss International 2013. Bea’s victory is yet another feather in our cap of victories in international beauty pageants this year,” said Binay.
The vice president said Santiago’s win “showcased the beauty and resiliency of the Filipino spirit.”
”For a nation recently beset by tragedies, her victory gives us another reason to cheer and remain hopeful that better times lie ahead,” he added.
Bea Rose Santiago is the fifth Filipina to win Miss International beauty pageant since its inception in 1960, others being Gemma Cruz-Araneta in 1964, followed by Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979 and Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005.
This is also the third time in a row this year that a Filipina won an international title in a beauty contest.
Earlier, Mutya Datul bagged the Miss Supranational in Belarus while Megan Lynne Young was crowned Miss World in Bali, Indonesia. (MNS)
