Batangas Governor Vilma Santos bagged the Best Actress award at the Dhaka International Film Festival held in Bangladesh for her performance in the acclaimed indie film “Ekstra.”
According to Bangladesh-based newspaper Dhaka Tribune, Santos’ “fabulous acting” helped her earn the award.
Twenty-two films from Asia Pacific including Australia competed at the film festival.
Her son, TV host Luis Manzano, was quick to congratulate her after hearing the news of her victory.
“Congratulations, mom. I love you, I’m proud of you,” Manzano said.
Directed by Jeffrey Jeturian, “Ekstra” tells the story of a struggling bit player in television soap operas. It was among the entries to last year’s Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival where Santos was also named best actress.
Iran, which had four entries, dominated the Dhaka International Film Festival, receiving six top awards including Best Director, Best Actor and Best Children Film. (MNS)
