Tips for a great spring makeover

By Marlou Colina

It’s springtime. The flowers are blooming, the days are getting longer and it’s time to rediscover the beautiful you. Spring is the perfect excuse for a makeover. It’s that season when no one will be surprised if you show up to the office with a completely new and drastic look.

The Spring Makeover Check List:

The first thing to do is to get a mani-pedicure. The toes will be out, an if you’re like most us, you’ve been keeping them covered up for some time now. Yes, French or Pearl Tips are better than nothing. However, don’t play it too safe this year – get that Fire Engine Red, or that Dark and Lovely CoCo that you’ve always wanted. Remember: It’s only temporary.

Next, get those sexy eye-brows. Not simply a basic ‘clean-up’, actually create some drama with your brows. It’s the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to make your face pop! Especially if you don’t normally have them done. No one can miss a great eyebrow arch.

Another tip is the natural tan. The type of simple tone you get from a week at Astoria Boracay. If you’re here in LA, take a day to the beach; rub on some tanning ‘oil’ – not sun block. Don’t spend all day out there, just enough time to get that healthy tropical glow.

This season, the cute ankle high strap-sandals are in. Linens, lunging tanks, pleated shorts and the ‘one-piece jumper’ is back. The look for Spring/Summer 2011 is a simply effortless style that says that you’re sassy –but not high-maintenance.

That ‘effortless’ look applies to your make-up as well. It’s not necessarily a matter of what make-up you wear: you could be the Vogue-ish type with smokey eyes or the pearl faced baby doll. The key is to take the time and to have a ‘look’ in the first place. Better yet, change it up from week to week. Keep the guys guessing.

Finally, if your hair is normally light – go black. If you typically sport a black hair do, try an amber, light brown or even blonde. You may be in a brief moment of culture shock, but the change will definitely get you noticed. And, ultimately it’s just hair color.

So get motivated. This spring rediscover yourself. A new look…a new you.
