WASHINGTON, D.C.—Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey—the Cinderella story of Filipino singer Arnel Pineda—will open on Friday, March 8, in movie houses in 15 major cities across the United States, the Philippine Embassy announced today.
Directed by Filipino-American filmmaker Ramona Diaz, the film follows the real-life rock ‘n’ roll fairy tale of Pineda who was plucked from YouTube to become the front man for the iconic American rock band Journey.
The critically-acclaimed film revolves on the story of how Pineda was able to overcome a lifetime’s worth of hardships and navigate the immense pressures of replacing legendary singer Steve Perry and leading a world-renowned band on its most extensive world tour in years.
Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., who served as a special guest at the screening of Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey at the Silverdocs Festival Opening Night last June 18 in Silver Spring, Maryland, called on the members of the Filipino-American Community to watch the film.
“I congratulate Ramona for creating a beautiful feel-good film. Ramona has a natural gift for story-telling and the reception of the people to what she did was heartwarming.” Ambassador Cuisia said. “We are proud of what Arnel has accomplished as an artist and as a person. I would encourage everyone to watch this amazing story.”
The film was an official selection and winner of the Audience Award at the 2013 Palm Springs International Film Festival. It was also an official section at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, the 2012 San Francisco International Film Festival and the 2012 Silverdocs Film Festival.
