Moisturizing your skin with an SPF rated formula is important for your health as well as your appearance. Let’s take a look at some of the important reasons why you should be using an SPF moisturizer on a daily basis.

Prevent Skin Damage from the Sun

The sun does more than burn your skin. It’s harmful ultraviolet rays also damage your skin’s collagen fibers and make it age faster. By protecting it with an SPF moisturizer, you’re not only safer from skin cancer but your skin will often look younger than your age. Some studies have shown that up to 70% of skin aging can be attributed to the effects of the suns rays.

Exposing your skin to the sun also dries it out, causing wrinkles, freckles and areas of pigmentation commonly called age spots or “liver spots” because of their color.

Its is important that you view the use of an SPF moisturizer as a long term investment into the health of your skin. While you may not notice much difference in the short term you will be preventing damage to your skin and you will certainly have healthier, younger looking skin in the future.

Lose the Tanning Mentality

If you don’t use a moisturizer with SPF because you want that tan that most people think is attractive, think about the facts. A tan is the skin’s defense against radiation, which is what the rays of the sun actually are. Depending on how long you expose your skin to the sun, it will manufacture more of a brown pigment called melanin in an attempt to protect itself from destruction. Your body may produce more oil to make up for the loss of moisture caused by the

heat and radiation, dehydrating your body and drying out your skin. Aside from concerns about skin cancer, you should be sure that your moisturizer has SPF protection to avoid throwing your body into its defense mode. A tan is rarely worth the damage it does to your body.

Protect your Skin from the Cold

In the winter months a moisturizer not only helps with chapping and drying from the cold or dry indoor heat, it helps your body stay hydrated. You’ll notice a marked difference in your comfort level when you use SPF moisturizer and may even save some money by turning down your thermostat. Hydrated skin is much more efficient at maintaining an ideal body temperature than unmoisturized skin.

Antioxidants

Choosing a moisturizer with an SPF rating benefits your skin in more ways than protecting it from the sun. Many of these formulas also contain antioxidants that prevent damage from the sun’s rays and also protect the rest of your body from free radicals that can lead to aging and disease.

SPF Moisturizers Help with Acne

Using an SPF moisturizer will also help those people whose skin is prone to acne. By protecting your skin from the sun’s radiation, a moisturizer discourages the over production of the oils that can clog pores and cause skin eruptions. Most acne products that people use to treat their acne contain chemicals that dry out the skin. A good moisturizer can help to reverse the effects of these chemicals and help to replenish dry skin.

Have you ever stopped to wonder how much money women (and even some men) spend to look younger, or to prevent the appearance of wrinkles? Just look at the immense options of Anti-Wrinkle creams available these days, it’s insane.

Yes, it’s nothing new that society has become paranoid of aging (as if aging is something to be ashamed of), but yet we know that aging is something we can not escape from, no matter how much Anti-Wrinkle cream, Botox, Facelifts or Fat Injections we do. It’s the course of nature and the cause of gravity. However, there are things that we can do on a daily basis to help postpone the signs of aging, and make wrinkles look less “saggy” and obvious. And it’s actually by using a really inexpensive little magic potion that we often don’t give much thought and importance to:

SPF (Sun Protection Factor).
