MANILA, June 12 (Mabuhay) – Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno was a no show at the 115th Independence Day celebration at the Pamintuan Mansion in Angeles City, Pampanga, which she was supposed to grace.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) said Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo led the first anniversary rites of his declaration of the country’s independence from Spain at the Pamintuan Mansion.

A court officer said Sereno had to attend to an emergency.

In her stead, the Independence Day rites were led by NHCP Commissioner Ferdinand Lianes and Angeles Mayor Ed Pamintuan.

Last year, then acting Chief Justice Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio was unable to participate in the Independence Day celebrations. In 2011 and 2010, former Chief Justice Renato Corona led the Independence Day celebrations in Kawit, Cavite.(MNS)
