Santa Clarita Valley Fil-Ams to hold Mga Kwento Ni Lola Basyang musical play Sept. 6

Lola BasyangThe FilAm Association of SCV, Inc. is proud to present a musical play of “Mga Kwento Ni Lola Basyang” (The Stories of Grandmother Basyang), an Anthology of short stories by Philippine literature’s most iconic storyteller, author Severino Reyes.
The musical production will be held on September 6, a Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the historical Canyon Theater Guild, 24242 Main Street, Santa Clarita CA 91321.

Co-sponsored by Morton Manufacturing and AFC Corp, in cooperation with Kababayan LA18, “Mga Kwento Ni Lola Basyang” will feature value driven folktales showcasing local talents, singers, colorful costumes and unforgettable Filipino cultural dance numbers by the popular Malaya Filipino American Dance Arts.

“We are so delighted to bring Lola Basyang, one of Philippines beloved Philippine literature’s storytellers.  This play will entertain you, will teach values and will surely captivate you” said FilAm of SCV President, Zenaida Justiniano.

The evening will delight viewers with two fascinating and enchanting stories, Áng Sultan Saif” (The Sultan Saif), will be played by new stage actor, Joe Maglalang along with Dexter Tucay as Chamberlain Abdul and Art Rivera as Minister Lour and “Ang Mahiwagang Biyulin” (The Magical Violin), in which Rodrigo will be played by young up and coming stage actor Paolo Arguelles, with actor and singer Joseph Sese to play Mr. Ahab.   The alluring Miss Zeny Benitez takes the loveable role of Lola Basyang. A colorful ensemble of various characters will be played by various members of the association.

The play is being directed by experienced stage actor and director, Myra Miranda along with co-director Verna Arguelles, an experienced stage director.   “Being able to translate these two timeless stories in a production play is such an honor.  This is just another one of FilAm of SCV’s effort to continue to promote and preserve our beautiful and colorful Philippine heritage”, says director Myra Miranda.
