Los Angeles, 23 November 2012 – The Filipino American Press Club of California (FAPCC) and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines-U.S. Chapter (NUJP-US Chapter) invited officials from the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles to a forum to remember the victims of the infamous 23 November 2009 Maguindanao Massacre, where 32 of the 58 victims were journalists.
The victims were part of an electoral convoy of candidate Esmael Mangudadatu when armed men associated with the Ampatuan clan shot them to death in the town of Ampatuan in Maguindanao.
In her remarks, Consul General Maria Hellen Barber De La Vega assured the group that the Philippine government is steadfast in finding justice for the victims of the massacre.
The event, which was attended by members of the Filipino American media, was held on 21 November 2012 at the Filipino-American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) in Historic Filipinotown, in the City of Los Angeles.
Invited speakers for the forum were Deputy House Speaker Lorenzo “Erin” Tanada III and Mr. Benjamin “Boying” Pimentel, Journalist & Author from San Francisco.
