Recovering A-Rod eager to meet with MLB

TAMPA, August 2011 (AFP) – Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, making progress in his recovery from a right knee injury, says he’s eager to talk to baseball officials about claims he was involved in high-stakes poker games.

Major League Baseball launched an investigation after Star Magazine reported last month that several people saw Rodriguez playing in games hosted at Hollywood hotels and residences.

“I’m looking forward to it,” the third baseman said Wednesday. “I’m concentrating on baseball.”

Rodriguez’s publicist, Richard Rubenstein, said in a statement last week that the magazine’s story contains “numerous factual inaccuracies.”

Rodriguez, who had right knee surgery on July 14, completed his first week of baseball activities Wednesday in an indoor batting cage because of rain.

“So far, so good,” he said.

Rodriguez, hitting .295 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs, could play in minor league games as early as this weekend.

The Yankees expect him to rejoin the team next week. â–
