MANILA (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III on Saturday joined the world in paying tribute to women on International Women’s Day, particularly saluting Filipinas who showed strength and offered hope in the face of calamities.

In his message for the occasion, the President said Filipino women have a major role to play in helping the country recover from recent tragedies.

He also said recent natural calamities showed the need for everyone to be prepared to face the challenges of nature.

Also, Aquino said International Women’s Day should be an occasion as well to renew their commitment to work for a just society and a better future.

In saluting Filipinas, Aquino lauded them for showing their strength in the wake of the Zamboanga City siege in September, the magnitude-7.2 quake in Central Visayas in October, and super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November.

On the other hand, he said women have an important role as well in working toward inclusive growth for the nation.

Kasama ng ating mga kababayan, patuloy nating buuin ang isang bansang handang kumalinga sa mga mamamayan at walang iniiwan sa kanyang pag-arangkada tungo sa minimithing malawakang kaunlaran,” he said.(MNS)
