MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Without naming names, the lawyer of Janet Lim Napoles on Tuesday said her client is receiving threats from some politicians.

Atty. Lorna Kapunan said that she is considering Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s suggestion to avail of a procedure called “perpetuation of testimony” under the rules of court.

Under that procedure, Napoles’ testimony will be given in writing outside of court, so it can be preserved for the trial even if something happens to her.

“Really, we were intending to do that precisely because of the real threats on her life,” Kapunan said.

But she added that there has to be a formal complaint against Napoles first.

Napoles is closely being guarded in Fort Sto. Domingo, a police camp in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Several new witnesses, who are former employees of JLN Corp., have come out against Napoles.

But Kapunan said those new witnesses were threatened with arrest.

Dalawang araw na lang at kayo ay mawa-warrant of arrest. That is the threat to the employees,” she said.

“With that threat plus the fact that all acounts of JLN were frozen and the office had to close, hindi sila maka-sweldo. They’re left with nothing,” she added.

Kapunan insisted there were no conditions for Napoles’s surrender to President Aquino – only that she be kept alive. (MNS)
