CERRITOS – The Scholarship Program of the Philippine Society of Southeast Los Angeles (PHILSELA) honored  11 graduates  at a dinner reception on June 19 at the Cerritos Liberty Park.

It is a long standing program of the organization that gives financial awards and special recognition to high achieving local area graduates.

The guest speaker, Dennis Arriola, President/CEO of the Southern California Gas Company,  spoke directly  to the honorees and inspired them to work hard to pursue their goals and to  be open to the possibilities ahead. Arriola is an alumnus of the ABC school District and a very generous supporter.

The awardees were Tiffanie Louise Abacan, Whitney High School; Bernard Louie Bagorio, Cerritos High; Kristen Danielle Carlos, Cerritos High; Monique Ann Demaisip, Gahr High; Jillian Perl Manalang, St. Joseph High; Rodel Manalo Jr, St. John Bosco; Matthew Nocon, Cerritos High; Beah Tolentino, Whitney High; Eriel Lois Uy, Cerritos High; Lowell Palacpac, UCLA Civil Engineering; and Tatiana Yokoyama.

Special guest for the evening were: Mark Pulido, Mayor of Cerritos; Dr. Mary Sieu, ABC School Superintendent; Armin Reyes, ABC School Board Member; and Abelardo Estacion, of the Estacion Foundation. Corporate sponsor to the program Wells Fargo Bank was represented by three of its Executives: Jason Arayata, Matthew Regan and Sharon Kaplan. – Alice Ramos
