PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL, DOT AND FILIPINO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS GEAR UP FOR 08 JUNE 2013 KALAYAAN CELEBRATION AT HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN
Los Angeles, 04 June 2013. – The Philippine Consulate General, the Department of Tourism and the Filipino community organizations of Los Angeles gears up for KALAYAAN 2013 at Filipinotown on 08 June 2013.
One of the highlights of Kalayaan 2013 celebration are the Dinagyang Street Dancers from the City of Iloilo and million-peso championship winner of the recent 11th Philippine Aliwan Fiesta, dubbed the “Mother of all Fiestas.”
On Saturday, June 8, the Dinagyang group, composed of 23 dancers and drummers, will be at the Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles to add excitement and thrill to the Philippine Independence Day parade in cooperation with the Department of Tourism and the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board.
Expect to experience the unique sound and spectacle of Dinagyang dancers performances in the first Philippine shearheaded by the Philippine Consulate General Independence Day festivities in Historic Filipinotown. To add glitter and glamour to the festival-like celebration, local talents, performers and celebrities have volunteered to perform at the event with Kababayan L.A. host Janelle So and award-winning actor, director, producer and comedian Bernardo Bernardo as emcees.
Food booths, contests, music, singing and dancing will highlight the whole day event that is expected to draw hundreds of Filipino-Americans in Historic Filipinotown.
Prior to their attendance at the Historic Filipinotown, the award-winning Dinagyang Street Dancers will be performing onFriday, June 7 at the Island Pacific Supermarket in Oxnard in Ventura County where they will also meet and greet with local community leaders.
The Kalayaan 2013 event are sponsored by Western Union, Seafood Supermarket, Island Pacific and XOOM, with special thanks and appreciation to the Office of Eric Garcetti and Silver Lake Medical Center.
Philippine food icons like Max, Jollibee, Goldilocks also make their presence last in this special celebration made more blessed by the parade of well-loved and beloved saints and the Virgin Mary.
