Los Angeles, 16 May 2013 – Consul General Maria Hellen Barber De La Vega joined the Asian American Community in commemorating Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month (APIAHM) organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Los Angeles City Hall on 10 May 2013 and the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA) on 15 May 2013.

The Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month is a month long celebration of the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.  The Filipino Community now ranks as the number one Asian American Pacific Islands ethnic group in the State of California.

Traditional dances from the Philippines, Taiwan, Myanmar, People’s Republic of China, Vietnam and the South Pacific Islands were featured in this year’s celebration.
