The Chiu family won’t be putting up the traditional Christmas decor in their house this holiday season, according to actress Kim Chiu, who lost her mother last June.
In fact, Chiu said they are not allowed to display any symbol of happiness until June next year – or one year after her mother’s death.
Chiu explained that they are just following Chinese tradition when there is a death in the family.
The actress’ mother, Louella Yap-Chiu, passed away last June 23 due to aneurysm at the age of 50 in Cebu.
To celebrate Christmas, Chiu said they will just have dinner, as well as go to church.
But she clarified that there will still be gift-giving, especially with the children.
“Hindi naman pwedeng iwala kay Rain (pamangkin) ang spirit of Christmas. Siyempre may gift siya,” Chiu said. “Pero walang tree, walang decoration, wala – sad.”
The actress stressed it was their family’s decision to follow the tradition.
“Choice naman namin ‘yon. Sabi ng lola ko, if we want, siyempre respeto sa mama ko. May Pasko pa naman. Wala nga lang yung symbols of Christmas sa bahay namin,” Chiu explained. (MNS)
