Just a few months after “Talentadong Pinoy” wrapped up the grand finals of its Worldwide Battle Royale edition last year, it was announced that the show would return for a sixth year.
Although Ryan Agoncillo – who had hosted the popular talent search series since its inception in 2009 was non-committal about returning, his name remained attached to the show up until last June.
At the time, Ryan said that while he may not host the show, he would still be involved in some capacity.
That same month, it was also reported that Willie Revillame, who for months has been hinting about his return to television, had been offered to host the show. In the end, neither Ryan nor Willie will be hosting “Talentadong Pinoy”, at least for this year.
The show’s new hosts? None other than celebrity couple Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez. So how did the action superstar and his TV host spouse got the gig?
Inalam niya muna ang lahat bago niya tinanggap,” Mariel said.
After making sure that everything is okay, Robin and Mariel sat down with TV5 management led by chief content entertainment officer Wilma Galvante and discussed their concerns and ideas for the show. One thing Robin in particular wanted to be clear about was that he and Mariel would be on the side of the hopefuls who wanted to realize their dreams through their talents.
Called “unbuzz”, Robin’s “overrule” option also allows him as host to function as a defender of certain contestants who deserve to compete for another day.
Robin also revealed that one of his ideas that was allowed by the show’s producers is to dine with the contestants in order to. yes, get to know them better.
While known mainly for his action films, Robin has been occasionally doing hosting jobs over the course of his career. He was, in fact, one of the original hosts of the now defunct noontime show “Pilipinas Win na Win” and was among those who took over from Willie when he left “Wowowee” in 2010.
“Una kong nakilala ko si Robin as a host.
Asked if they have any expectations as far as this season’s contestants are concerned, the couple said they hoped to discover some unusual talents never before seen on previous seasons.
As for singers and dancers who usually are good enough to land in the grand finals but somehow still fail to get the top prize, Robin has this to say.
Further to that, Mariel said it would be more challenging for singers and dancers to be part of a talent contest where being unique is a big plus.
“Siguro ang pinaka-challenge sa kanila eh kung ano ang gagawin nila para umangat sila sa iba,” she pointed out.
“Talentadong Pinoy 2014” premieres August 16 and will air on TV5 every Saturday. thereafter from 7:30 to 8:30PM. (MNS)
