LOS ANGELES, CA (August 22, 2013) – She stood on stage with a big smile, keeping calm and composed as they announced the winner, “Miss Philippines USA 2013 is Candidate #21, Jasmine Sabio!”  She was in disbelief, having signed up only a month before the pageant, she kept herself from having the highest expectations.  “I was only aiming for top 12,” she said during an interview with Balita Media. She added “I was already very thankful when I made it to the top 10.  That alone or maybe a special award was already more than enough to make me come home feeling like a winner.  So when they announced my name for the title, I couldn’t believe it!”

Miss Philippines USA was Sabio’s first major beauty pageant.  She joined a couple of smaller pageants in school, but what really prepared her for this pageant was the fact that she used to perform on stage as a dancer.  However, she confided that this event was such a big undertaking for her compared to those performances. As nervous as she was, she managed to gracefully and confidently deliver the best response in the Question and Answer portion of the show. She picked a random question from basket and host Cher Calvin, who was joined by Tony Cabrera, read the question “What is the one thing you hold dearest and why?” Sabio’s winning answer was “The one thing I hold dearest is being a Filipino-American in Alabama, and you know why? In Huntsville, where I’m from, the Filipino population is less than half percent. Crazy, I know; twenty percent here [in Los Angeles].  So being a Filipino-American in Huntsville, all my friends –  they don’t get the option or situation to learn more about the Philippines, so I am able to give them that gift – to share my rich culture, my background, my heritage and how we’ve grown up.”  The audience roared as she finished with a fist bump and shouted “Filipinos rule!”

Holly Olalia was the Miss Philippines USA Tourism 2013 and Camille Teodoro was the Miss Philippines USA Ambassador 2013.   The other awardees were:  Anacarmina Mariategue, First Runner-up; Jessica Lee, Second Runner-up; Alexandra Maghsoudi, Third Runner-up; Leslie Pine, Miss Designer’s Choice; Jasmine Reyes, Miss Unity; Magne Booc, Miss Congeniality; Mishi Magno, Miss Photogenic; Anacarmina Mariategue, Best in Swimsuit; Janelle Olafson, Miss GT Cosmetics; Holly Olalia, Miss GT Cosmetics and Alexandra Maghsoudi, Community Service Award.

The pageant was held on August 18, 2013 at the La Mirada Theater, with 24 candidates.  It was presented by Lou Razon Designs and Roxas Law, APC in cooperation with Seafood City, Lay Bare Waxing, Cinema Makeup School, M Beauty Clinic, Flowers by Demetrio, Law Offices of Alan Fenster, GT Cosmetics, Smile Zone Dental and media sponsors Weekend Balita and the US Asian Post.  Lou Razon wishes to thank Careline Hospice, Max’s of Manila, Tesoro’s Diamonds, First Nations Funding, Bamboo Bistro, JR D’Angeles, Rex Vincent Photography and Alpha Kappa Rho.  For more information on Miss Philippines USA, visit www.missphilusa.com.
