KAPUSO star Mikael Daez said his modeling career will take a backseat, for now, because showbiz will be his priority.

Mikael will star in the upcoming afternoon soap of GMA-7 entitled “Sana Ay Ikaw na Nga” with Andrea Torre.

“I’m completely focused actually. Modeling now is in my past,” he said. He said he is thankful to friends and co-workers who are proud and supportive of his new career.

“Now, backseat muna yun, maybe later on. Tapusin ko muna ito. Maging successful muna rito,” he added.

Mikael described his entry into showbiz as accidental. He said he never thought that one modeling stint would lead him to the entertainment business.

He said his modeling career started after college when he needed funds for a summer vacation. From there, he said, his career in modeling blossomed until Mercator Model Management signed him.

While doing numerous modeling projects, Mikael thought of going to Hong Kong or Singapore to try his luck there. Then GMA-7’s offer came.

“The offer of GMA was very good. They offered me security and from that, I gave myself time to think. Kailangan mentally ready ka eh, talagang dapat handa at desidido ako ditto,” he added.

Mikael is now co-managed by GMA Artist Center and Mercator. His first project with the station was “Amaya” with Marian Rivera.

The 24-year-old said he needs to work hard and constantly learn new things to be able to deliver what is expected of him.

“All those models who want to join showbiz, its hard work. Yung stereotype eh nasa harap ka lang ng camera, napapa-pogi ka then binabayaran ka. Pero hindi eh,” he said. “Yung Filipino audience matalino na sila eh. Kailangan may ipapakita ka sa kanila na skill sa ginagawa mo.”

Mikael said he is thankful of the acting workshops he underwent under directors Maryo delos Reyes and Laurice Guillen and Beverly Vergel.

“Sobrang grateful ako sa kanila because they are willing to help people, artists like me to get better. Ako pinapakita ko lang sa kanila I’m willing and I’ll be forever willing to improve and learn more,” he said.

He said he hopes to make his parents, friends, supporters and those who believed in his talent, very proud. He wishes to have a long run in showbiz. (MNS)
