MANILA (Mabuhay) – Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will return to action on November 22 in Macau.
His next opponent will be a dangerous one: unbeaten American light-welterweight champion Chris Algieri.
Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank confirmed the deal to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
“We have a deal. On my end, it wasn’t a hard deal at all,” said Arum.
Pacquiao last saw action in April in a win against Timothy Bradley, who was also previously undefeated before his rematch with the Filipino. Against Algieri, Pacquiao will make the first defense of the WBO world welterweight title he regained against Bradley.
But Algieri, who stands 5-foot-11, figures to be a tough test for Pacquiao. With 20 wins under his belt, Algieri defeated former Pacquiao sparring partner Ruslan Provodnikov last June to win the WBO world light-welterweight title. (MNS)
