MANILA, Dec. 2 (Mabuhay) – Former Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson was a very good choice to oversee the rehabilitation efforts in the areas devastated by super typhoon Yolanda last November 8, according to Senator Juan Edgardo Angara.
Angara believed that Lacson would not fail President Benigno Aquino III and the Filipino people as ‘rehabilitation czar.’
”His record of honesty will certainly help erase doubts on his capability to ably handle the sensitivity of the position. We wish Sen. Ping luck,” Angara said in a press statement on Monday.
Lacson never used the P200-million priority development assistance fund (PDAF) allotted for each senator every year during his 12-year stint in the Senate.
The Supreme Court (SC) recently declared the congressional PDAF as ‘unconstitutional’ after the pork barrel was marred with the alleged P10-billion scam.
In a media forum on Monday, Lacson promised to observe transparency in the disbursement of money for the reconstruction of the areas hit by Yolanda.
Lacson said he will make sure that no single rehabilitation fund will go to unscrupulous individual as he hopes to finish the reconstruction phase by mid of 2016.
President Aquino recently increased the allocation for the rehabilitation and reconstruction program for Yolanda-hit areas from P38.8 billion to P40.9 billion.
The fund includes P14.5 billion supplemental budget that the Senate already passed for Yolanda-ravaged areas.
Aside from the P40.9 billion, there are already billions of donations from other countries and other international organizations.(MNS)
