On August 4, 2013, Historic Filipinotown will be celebrating the 11th year of its proclamation by the Los Angeles City Council with a 5K Run and a festival at the Silverlake Medical Center grounds located at 1711 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, California.

The festival will be brimming with plenty of life and fun with live music, authentic food and activities centered on this year’s theme: “Kalusugan ay Kayamanan” or “Health is Wealth.”  Admission and parking is free and open to the public from 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.

The popular Filipino rock band Introvoys will be performing their hit songs and hosting the “Battle of the Bands” live music competition. The contest is open to solo, duet and group performers.  There is a $10 per person sign-up fee and no limit to the number of persons per act.  Only the top 6 contestants will be selected as finalist and given the chance to perform live for final judging.  In addition, there will be performances by up and coming singer Lianna Gutierrez (Patti Austin’s protégé), saxophonist Ner de Leon and other Filipino-American artists.

The full day of fun starts with a 5K Run; followed by a bus tour of Historic Filipinotown; adoption of Saint Pedro Calungsod; the Search for 2013 Mr.and Ms. Youth Ambassadors; Recognition of Distinguished Doctors and Dentists Awards, Filipino cultural dancers, Foklorico  and dozens of food booths and exhibitors.

Filipino designer Lou Razon will hold a fashion show featuring her latest collection of children’s attire.  Young aspiring models are invited to audition for the runway show which is open to boys and girls between the
ages of 5 to 12 years.  Interested participants can contact Lou Razon at 818-242-2088.

Historic Filipinotown was created on August 2, 2002 by a resolution proposed by city council member Eric Garcetti to promote cultural, political and economic development in the district.  It was one of the few enclaves with Filipino settlements during the early part of the 20th century and is still home to many Filipino residents and some of the leading Filipino associations and organizations.

The event is presented by Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council (HiFiNC) , a 501(c) corporation in cooperation with Silverlake Medical Center; Seafood City, Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown, Miss Philippines USA, Noypitz Bar & Restaurant, LA 18 Kababayan Today, AKP USA, Weekend Balita, the US Asian Post and Fil-Am TV.
