MANILA, Feb 26 (Mabuhay) — She may be married to a senator but veteran actress Helen Gamboa is not interested in joining politics.
Gamboa said she has repeatedly turned down offers for her to enter the political arena.
“Since 1992 they had been convincing me to run for Congress here in Quezon City, for mayor, ‘yung ganoon. But you know, I never entertained it,” Gamboa said.
“Hindi ako interesado. I do not want to be faced by all those (intrigues). Baka ma-stress ako, masisira ang beauty ko,” she added in jest.
Gamboa is married to Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and also has children who are also in politics.
According to Sotto, they make it a point to shield Gamboa from political issues whenever they are home.
“We don’t trouble her with problems of politics, kami lang,” Sotto said. “Basta politika ang usapan kami ‘yon.”
Gamboa and Sotto also shared their secret to their strong marriage as they have been together for 42 years with four children.
Sotto revealed that Gamboa was ready to give up her booming showbiz career for the sake of their marriage.
“Sa start pa lang, she was ready to sacrifice, she was ready to give up her career, to build a family. Siguro ‘yon ang isa sa secret of a very successful marriage. Sana both are ready to sacrifice for each other,” he said.
“Maybe God blessed the intention of our hearts,” Gamboa added.
The senator said he thanks the Lord everyday for giving him Gamboa. “Everyday of my life, she is my life,” Sotto said. (MNS)
