GMA Network, through its international channels – GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International – partners with the Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council (HIFINC), in celebrating the 11th Annual Historic Filipinotown Festival and 5K Run on August 4, 2013, at the Silver Lake Medical Center grounds in Los Angeles, California.

Dubbed “Kalusugan ay Kayamanan”, which means “Health is Wealth,” the annual event starts off with a 5-kilometer morning run at 7:00 a.m.  At 10:00 a.m., a holy mass will be held with the ceremonial adoption of Saint Pedro Calungsod as the Patron Saint of Historic Filipinotown.

In the afternoon, the GMA Variety Show will feature Kapuso actres Glaiza de Castro (who plays Heidi in GMA’s Temptation of Wife and can be seen leading her team “InstaGang” in the weekly variety show Sunday All Stars) will grace the stage and perform for the audience.

Popular Filipino rock band Introvoys will also be performing at the main stage and will be hosting the “Battle of the Bands” live music competition. The contest is open to solos, duets and groups.  Only the top 6 acts will be selected as finalist and given the chance to perform live for final judging.

The entertainment line-up also includes Patti Austin’s protégé Lianna Gutierrez, saxophonist Ner de Leon, the Search for 2013 Mr. and Ms. Youth Ambassadors, a children’s fashion show by Filipino designer Lou Razon, the Bayanihan Spirit Awards to distinguished men and women in the medical and dental industries, Filipino cultural dancers, Foklorico and other Filipino-American artists.

There will be a free bus tour of the Historic Filipinotown and guests can have fun going around dozens of food and exhibitor booths.

Historic Filipinotown was created on August 2, 2002 by a resolution proposed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti when he was still a city councilor.  The purpose was to promote cultural, political and economic development in the district.  It was one of the few enclaves with Filipino settlements during the early part of the 20th century and is still home to many Filipino residents and some of the leading Filipino associations and organizations.

The Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council (HIFINC), a 501(c) corporation, was founded and incorporated in 2006 with the mission to make Historic Filipinotown, more commonly known as Hi-Fi, safe for its residents.  They sponsor and spearhead events that celebrate the Filipino culture and highlight contributions that Filipino-Americans have made to the Southern California community.
