Los Angeles, 7 November 2012 – In a reception held on 6 November 2012 at the Rizal Hall of the Philippine Consulate General, leaders of the Filipino-American community welcomed the Honorable Maria Hellen M. Barber-De La Vega as the new Consul General in Los Angeles.
During her remarks, Consul General Barber-De La Vega thanked the audience for the very warm reception and vowed to work closely with the Filipino-American community especially in promoting economic and cultural diplomacy.
The Consul General also highlighted the role of the youth leaders in promoting awareness of the second generation Filipino-Americans of their motherland.
Consul General Barber-De La Vega considers her second posting in Los Angeles a blessing as she rekindles past acquaintances and friendship, made five years ago when she bid farewell to assume other assignments at the Department of Foreign Affairs. She was then assigned as Deputy Chief of Mission, Minister and Consul General at the Philippine Embassy in Beijing, People’s Republic of China; and, later as the Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
