Hollywood, CA – A large number of Filipino Americans came to support the fashion show of awesome designer Alan Del Rosario at the Supper Club in Hollywood last July 21 to raise funds for the Apl of My Eye Campaign, a project of the Apl.de.ap Foundation International and Mending Kids International. The project will provide eye surgeries for Filipino babies who are in danger of developing retinopathy.

Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas expressed his gratitude to the audience. He told his personal story about how his father Joe Hudgens adopted him when he was in the Philippines and brought him to Los Angeles. “You guys are my new angels. You will help a lot of kids in the Philippines. I thank all of you to give your time and your effort to this project. Through my foundation, I am able to put up schools. I visit the kids and the classrooms. One time I see them editing the videos they made themselves. I see the power of education and to give back the opportunities that I got. I know that the Filipino kids can compete against the kids of the world by having the same opportunity. Thank you,” Apl said.

Venus Raj, fourth runner up of Miss Universe 2010 was a special guest at the show. Raj congratulated the organizers of the event. She likewise pointed out the importance of helping the children in the Philippines. “I thank those who came to see the fashion show and, of course, eventually help Filipino babies who have eye problems.”

Mildred Deang of the Bb. Pilipinas USA Cares introduced the candidates of the Bb.Pilipinas USA competition who also modeled the spring collection of designer Alan Del Rosario.

Designer Alan Del Rosario has dressed such luminaries as Michelle Pfeiffer, Debra Messing, Taylor Swift, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Paula Abdul and Lea Michele, to name a few. His designs have appeared in countless magazine editorials, television shows, and have been found in high-end department stores like Saks Fifth Ave., Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and specialty boutiques nationwide under his label Thimble and Thread.

At the after party at Burbank Bar and Grille, Apl.de.Ap posed with the Bb. Pilipinas candidates. The media were asked to judge the most photogenic candidate. Allan Pineda Lindo (Apl.de.Ap) stayed behind and discussed more about his school projects in the Philippines. He explained that he personally helps the high school students and those wanting to go to college. Many of the kids often take up vocational courses which make them get a job in a few years to help their families, Apl added. The final competition of the Bb. Pilipinas will be held on July 27 at the Centinela Valley Center of Performing Arts in Lawndale,California.
