MANILA, May 3 (Mabuhay) – Former President Joseph Estrada on Thursday said a “police mentality†is no longer solving problems in Manila, anticipating an electoral showdown with retired police general and incumbent Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim for the city’s top elective post in the 2013 polls.
“Ang Maynila, nakakapanghinayang… Hindi naman sa inaano ko lahat ng pulis, pero buti na lang hindi ako utak-pulis. Hindi na uso ang shoot-to-kill,†Estrada said in a speech during the oath-taking ceremony for new members of his political party Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino in San Juan City.
He added that he wants Manila to have a “complete urban renewal.â€
Estrada, however, still did not give a categorical statement on his plans for the 2013 polls.
“Siyam na tulog na lang po, malalaman niyo na kung tutuloy ako o si Isko [Vice Mayor Isko Moreno] ang inyong magiging mayor,†he said.
He added that he still has to consult the PMP leadership to decide whether or not he will run for Manila mayor next year. (MNS)
