MANILA (Mabuhay) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has prepositioned a total of P104.3 million as emergency relief assistance for local government units (LGUs) in the different regions expected to be affected by storm “Basyang” (downgraded into a tropical depression as of mid-morning Saturday.
Based on the Jan. 31, 11 p.m. Report No. 5 of DSWD’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Operations Office (DRRROO), the prepositioned amount consists of P54.9 million standby funds; 48,044 family food packs worth P11.6 million; and P37.72 million worth of food and non-food items as augmentation assistance.
DSWD Secretary Corazon J. Soliman said she has directed all DSWD-Field Offices in Regions IV-B, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X and CARAGA to activate their Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Teams to provide round-the-clock monitoring of the situation.
“We are taking the necessary preparedness measures together with the LGUs along Basyang’s path to ensure the safety of families, especially those living in coastal and low-lying areas,” she said. (MNS)
