MANILA, July 12 (Mabuhay) — Malacañang said government agencies are ready to defend their proposed budgets for 2014 in light of reports that Senator Nancy Binay wants to scrutinize the budget of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“Handa naman po ‘yung mga ahensiya natin at ‘yung mga proponents ng mga programa natin na ipagtanggol po ‘yung budget ng kanilang department. Lalo po ‘yung sa conditional cash transfer, there is joint congressional oversight committee that the DSWD reports to on a very regular basis about the disbursements of the budget of the CCT,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.
“Lagi pong magiging handa iyong ating mga kalihim at iyong aming mga kasamahan sumagot po ng mga tanong tungkol ho sa mga proposed budget natin sa Kongreso.”
The Palace said the budget department is still computing the final figure of the proposed budget as the President approved it in principle but wanted “minor adjustments.”
“Let’s wait until the final number is released. I was told that, yes, there will be minor items that need to be threshed out and clarified as such the figure is not final. But I was advised that the final figure will be thereabouts in that same ballpark,” Valte said.
Asked about the nature of the adjustments, Valte said, “More of ‘saan po ba natin ilalagay?’ because we have limited resources. The President wanted to make sure that the sectors who need the most attention will be supported by the programs and the programs will be supported by the appropriate funds.”(MNS)
