MANILA (Mabuhay) – Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Wednesday expressed confidence that Ruby Tuason will return to the country.

Tuason is one of the accused in the pork barrel scam. She had earlier signified her intention to testify in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam case.

According to De Lima, she has no doubts that Tuason will return to the Philippines as per her scheduled date of return on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

De Lima said that one of the reasons why she believes that Tuason will return to the country is because she is under the coverage of the government’s Witness Protection Program (WPP) and that she is also applying as state witness in the said anomaly.

She explained that if an individual is under the coverage of the WPP, there are conditions that must be complied with and one of these is her return to the Philippines.

De Lima stressed that they have regular communication with Tuason and they know her whereabouts.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) earlier confirmed that Tuason left the country on March 2, 2014 on board Cathay Pacific bound for Hong Kong.

Tuason had promised before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee to return to the government the amount of P40 million as her “kickbacks” from the PDAF scam. (MNS)
