MANILA (Mabuhay) — Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Wednesday said that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) is now verifying whether the respondents in the priority development assistance fund (PDAF) scam covered by the hold departure orders (HDOs) issued by the Sandiganbayan are still in the country.

De Lima said that she is awaiting report on the matter to be submitted to her by the BI.

The BI immediately alerted on Tuesday its personnel assigned in the international airports and seaports to restrain individuals covered by the HDOs who would attempt to leave the Philippines.

Under the law, the government has the power to prevent the departure for another country of an individual while his case is pending in court.

Included in the HDOs issued by the Sandiganbayan on Tuesday are Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr.; Janet Lim Napoles, Atty. Gigi Reyes and more than 30 co-accused in the PDAF scam. (MNS)
