Los Angeles, 27 November 2012 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, in cooperation with the Philippine Heritage Institute International (PHII) and the Philippine Expressions Bookshop (PEB), hosted a reception on 26 November 2012 at the Rizal Hall of the Consulate General to commemorate the 149th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio and the book launching of Faith and Struggle on Smokey Mountain: Hope for a Planet in Peril written by Fr. Benigno P. Beltran, SVD.
Consul General Maria Hellen Barber De Le Vega welcomed the participation and, expressed her appreciation for the collaboration of Misses Naomi Palma Armada, Josie de Jesus and Lydia Solis of PHII and Ms. Linda Nietes of PEB to make the event possible.
Deputy Consul General Daniel R. Espiritu gave the audience an audio-visual presentation on the life and heroism of Andres Bonifacio while Fr. Beltran shared his experience in the social-economic development of the lives of the urban poor residents of Smokey Mountain, Tondo, Manila.
Other highlights of the event were the parade of colors by Messrs. Teddy and Ray Ortega of Buhay na Kasaysayan Historical Society, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem by Ms. Sara Mislang, the reading of the Decalogue of the Kapitunanby Ms. Josie de Jesus of PHII, and the recitation of the poem “Pag-ibig sa TinubuangLupa” by Kai Alcayde.
