MANILA (Mabuhay) – Principal pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy on Thursday said he saw new government witness Dennis Cunanan carrying a paper bag where he personally placed kickbacks from the alleged pork barrel scam.
Luy said he prepared the paper bag, which contained P960,000 in pork barrel commissions.
“Ang alam ko nakita kong tumanggap … pagkalabas niya [Cunanan], nakita ko bitbit niya ‘yung paper bag,” Luy said during a Senate blue ribbon committee hearing.
Luy made this statement after Cunanan denied earlier during the hearing that he benefited from the alleged anomaly.
“Kung meron man ako, bakit hindi ko aaminin? Lalo na sa sitwasyon ngayon,” a teary-eyed Cunanan, on-leave Technology Resource Center (TRC) chief, told the Senate panel.
He later stood by his earlier statement, saying he did not know what happened to the paper bag during the time that lapsed when Luy prepared the money and when the bag was handed to him.
Cunanan is the first government official implicated in the alleged pork barrel anomaly to provide testimony on how pork barrel funds supposedly ended up in politicians’ pockets.
Cunanan earlier executed an affidavit where he detailed how Senators Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada, through phone calls, supposedly confirmed that they selected foundations linked to Napoles for their pork barrel funds.
Both Revilla and Estrada denied knowing Cunanan and ever talking to him over the phone. (MNS)
