MANILA, May 7 (Mabuhay) – Former Senate President Jovito Salonga was served a warrant of arrest Monday morning over the alleged sale of a condo unit in Tagaytay City in 1997.
Pasig City regional trial court branch 125 issued a warrant for Salonga’s arrest on estafa raps filed by a certain Dr. Restituto Buenviaje.
Pasig City police served the warrant at Salonga’s home on Acacia Street, Valle Verde Subdivision in Pasig City but failed to arrest him because he was ill.
Instead, Salonga’s son, Steve Salonga, went with police.
Buenviaje filed the estafa charges against Salonga and other respondents over the alleged sale of a condo unit in Tagaytay in 1997, which remained unfinished.
The older Salonga is a former Senate President and a stalwart of the Liberal Party of President Aquino. (MNS)
