Archbishop Tagle warns public on fake Facebook accounts

MANILA (Mabuhay) – Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle urged the public to report to Facebook several spurious accounts using his name for it to be shut down.

This, as he warned them against six fake accounts: Archbishop Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, D.D., STD; Bishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle; Bishop-luis Antonio Tagle; BishopLuis Antoniogtagle, Luis Antonio Cardinal Gokim Tagle and Luis Antonio Gokim Cardinal Tagle that are using his name.

In an article posted on the Archdiocese of Manila website, www.rcam.org, explained that he is only using one official Facebook account under the name: Bishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle and can be accessed through, www.facebook.com/ArchbishopTagle.

He added that the site is being maintained by the Jesuit Communications (JesCom). As of November 26, 2013, the account has 362,000+ likes.

Tagle also urged the public to ignore all solicitation, particularly of cash donations and not to patronize the said sites.

Earlier, the head of the Archdiocese of Manila cautioned Facebook users against unscrupulous people using his name to solicit money.

“I just discovered that a lot of Facebook accounts bearing my name have been created by people I do not know,” Tagle said.

He also urged those who received such requests to verify first the information by calling the Archdiocese of Manila. (MNS)
