MAMBURAO, Occidental Mindoro, Nov 15 (Mabuhay) – President Benigno S. Aquino III opened on Thursday the P176 million Mompong Yapang Bridge here in celebration of the province’s 62nd Founding Anniversary.
The Chief Executive, assisted by Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson, Occidental Mindoro Governor Josephine Y. Ramirez-Sato, Occidental Mindoro Vice Governor Mario Gene J. Mendiola and Paluan (Occidental Mindoro) Mayor Abelardo S. Pangilinan, led the pressing of the button to signal the formal opening of the bridge.
Constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the bridge is located in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.
With the completion of the 150-lineal meter bridge, the travel time between San Jose and Mamburao is reduced from four hours to three hours. The newly-completed bridge will significantly improve the access to markets of farm products which are the main sources of income in the mainly agricultural areas.
The inauguration of the bridge also paved the way for the government to easily provide the people of various social services such as health and education.
The bridge is part of the Spanish government’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan with a total amount of 30.3 Million Euro (equivalent to P1.8 Billion) which covers the supply of steel bridges and related services for 91 bridges in various parts of the country with a total length of 3,675 lineal meters.
The bridge program is part of the Aquino government’s thrust of making all national bridges permanent by 2016. (MNS)
