Actress-comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas admitted she is still emotional over her children settling in the United States, while she remains in the Philippines as its entertainment industry’s “Comedy Queen.â€
Delas Alas revealed that her two children, Sean Nicolo, 18, and Sofia, 16, now live in the US to finish their studies and to obtain an American citizenship.
The box-office comedienne recently arrived home after spending time with her children, who is now under the care of their father, delas Alas’ former partner Miguel Vera.
“Kaya ako nandoon sa Amerika kasi ‘yung dalawa kong anak, doon muna. Si Sofia doon muna mag-aaral, and si Nicolo, papasok sa Air Force,†delas Alas said.
“Hindi ko tinutulan,†the comedienne said, referring to her children’s stay in the U.S. “Kasi in case, mayroon silang option na maging US citizen sila, may option sila kung gusto nila dito or gusto nila doon, at least meron silang fallback.â€
The “Tanging Ina†star said she had initially mulled her children’s migration to the U.S. when Vera, who has an immigrant status there, petitioned for their citizenship in 2005.
“Immigrant kasi si Miguel eh, so noon pa 2005, pinetition sila, eh loka-loka ako, hindi ko sila pinayagan dati. [Six years] bago ako umayos,†she said, adding in jest, “Ako ‘yung may problema, ang tagal ko mag-isip, buti nga humabol pa ‘yung dalawa eh.â€
Delas Alas, who also has a son, Sancho, from a relationship before Vera, said she is still emotional over Nicolo and Sofia living overseas, but the actress said a “bright future†for her children outweighed the distance.
“Naiwan na sila doon. Hindi ko lang pinaalam sa publiko pero emosyonal hanggang ngayon. Lalo na ‘yung bunso (Sofia) kasi syempre only girl ko ‘yun, at syempre sanay siya dito. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Ok lang ‘yun, magiging maganda to for you, magiging independent ka,’ at alam ko magiging maganda future nila in case maging citizen sila,†delas Alas said.
As her two children mark a milestone in their lives, the country’s comedy queen meanwhile is rumored to be entertaining thoughts of getting married anew – this time, with her current boyfriend of six months, businessman Jed Salang.
But the box-office queen remains tight-lipped about any plans of getting married soon. (MNS)
