What’s Your Next Look?
The New Year is a beautiful time when everyone seems to be anxious for change – improvement actually. From exciting new hair colors, or just getting rid of the gray, to complete make-overs, my salon is abuzz with clients whom have made me their New Year’s resolution. Thank you all so very much!
It’s so wonderful to know that I can be a part of this special time for you – that time of re-discovery or re-invention that we all go through in our lives. The great thing about being in the beauty business is that it is empowering for myself and for my clients and readers alike. The tips work, the color is sexy on you, the new shade does make you look younger and your hubby did notice the change!
For all of you that haven’t been able to get an appointment in the salon, we are pleased to announce we will be extending all of the New Years Specials throughout January. Beauty is on sale and going fast at the Marlou Colina Salon. Just stop by when you’re in Long Beach. And the advice that I give everyone this New Year is to make a change, bump it up, find that spark in your soul and bring it to the light. It may begin with a new pair of shoes, a new recipe for dinner tonight or falling in love with your husband all over again. Whatever gets you going – just get going already! The color, cut or the shade of the blush isn’t as important as discovering the beautiful you inside. That’s where it all begins.
Stay tuned to your Balita because 2011 is going to be our best and most inspiring year ever with the new online community and new eye-opening articles that will keep you looking, feeling and being the most beautiful you – ever! Unlike other beauty advice columns, I give tips and insights created exclusively for the Pinay or Pinoy, from makeup tips for the most tropical skin shades, teasing tips for the thickest of locks, to guaranteed ways to bring out that sexy Pinay that’s been hiding deep inside.
As a stylist, my goal is to bring out the truest expression of beauty that lies undiscovered in most of my clients. We now live in a culture which truly only celebrates that which is familiar, popular, famous, rich, thin and pale – this new home can take a toll on your ego if you’re not careful. As Filipinos, we have an uncanny sense of value, success and beauty that is unique to our culture. Beginning with our love of good -and healthy- food, large family, long lasting friendships and ethnic beauty. Too often in this new land, clients approach me at the salon, or readers recognize me on the street, and ask me “How do I look more beautiful…more western?”. Bewildered, I ask them “Why? Why would you want to do that?” One of the biggest sellers at my salon are Brazilian and Asian hair fusions, and I will admit, it isn’t just Brazilian or Filipino women buying the thousands of feet of hair we sell every year. It’s westerners that think that we Filipinos are gorgeous! It’s true.
That in a nut shell is the passion that has driven me from the days of makeup styling in the Philippines to having my own salon and makeup line in Los Angeles now – beauty. Helping people discover the beauty that they all have makes me happy and fulfills my soul. I love the twinkle in a little girl’s eye when she knows she’s beautiful, the confidence that exudes from a woman with a new sexy look for her corporate career, and the glow that radiates from a bride and groom when they walk down the isle knowing that all eyes are on them – and they know they look hot!
In 2011, I will bring new excitement to my pages by giving you more – more secrets, more interviews, more of your questions answered and more reminders of the beauty of the Philippines and its people. Love the skin you’re in.
Thank you Balita for this opportunity to inspire.
