Lacson flees Philippines, fearing murder charge
MANILA, February 2, 2010 (AFP) – A prominent critic of President Gloria Arroyo said on Tuesday he had fled the Philippines to escape an “evil conspiracy” as prosecutors prepared to charge him with murder.
Senator Panfilo Lacson, a former police chief, made the announcement on his official website, in which he accused Arroyo of plotting to have him thrown in jail on trumped-up charges.

Immigration Bureau chief Marcelino Libanan told reporters Lacson apparently left the country on January 5.
“This is one case (in which) I will dispute the argument ‘flight is an indication of guilt’,” Lacson said, apparently referring to the murder case.
