PALA, CA, November 25, 2013 – Filipino pop stars and certified hitmakers Joey Albert and Nonoy Zuniga will headline the 2nd “Hanep sa Wow” Filipino Music Festival at the Infinity Showroom of Pala Casino Spa & Resort at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30. The festival lineup also includes Fe de los Reyes, Eva Caparas and Jet Montelibano – of the popular 80’s show band The Music & Magic.
OPM singers Joey Albert and Nonoy Zuniga are both best known for their original timeless classic hits.
JOEY ALBERT is a versatile Filipino pop and jazz singer whose string of timeless hits has become ingrained in Filipino music history. She has enjoyed an award-winning solo career for over 25 years that began when one of her first hits, “Tell Me” received a Gold Record Award from the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI), establishing her meteoric rise as a major Filipino musical artist. “Tell Me” became such a mega-hit that other known musical artists, including David Pomeranz, recorded cover versions of the song. Joey’s other hits include “Over and Over,” “A Million Miles Away,” “I Remember the Boy,” “Points of View,” and Tagalog favorites “Yakapin Mo Ako,” “Iisa Pa Lamang,” “Ikaw Lamang Ang Mamahalin,” many of which have been immortalized as theme songs of many blockbuster TV drama series more popularly known as “teleseryes.”
NONOY ZUNIGA’s singing career spans more than 3 decades, from a folk singer (1971 to 1975) to being one of the lead singers of the Family Birth Control Band performing in the best nightspots and hotels in Manila (1975-1980) to becoming a multi-awarded singer performing solo concerts in the U.S. and various parts of the world including Asia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China and New Zealand. All his performances from 1983 to the present are well-acclaimed and mostly sold-out shows mainly due to his much-anticipated classic hit ballads like “Never Ever Say Goodbye,” “Kumusta Ka.” “Doon Lang,” “Bituing Walang Ningning,” his upbeat “Magandang Gabi” and other well-loved English standards that perfectly fit his deep baritone vocals.
MUSIC & MAGIC which include lead members singer-comediene Fe de los Reyes, soul singer Eva Caparas and livewire performer Jet Montelibano, is one of the few elite singing groups during the ‘80s in the Philippines. After capturing the local concert scene and playing before sold-out audiences, they were offered performance contracts outside of the Philippines and enjoyed extended stints in Singapore and Malaysia over a span of two years. They also were featured as guest performers in concerts that toured the U.S. and Canada and performed in prestigious venues such as the Shrine Auditorium (Los Angeles), the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (San Francisco) and Carnegie Hall (New York). With their varied repertoire swinging from an “Earth, Wind & Fire Medley” to The Blue Brothers’ “Everybody Needs Somebody”, the Weather Girls’ “Raining Men,” “The Best of Broadway” Medley, “Tagalog Novelty Medley,” and their well-loved anthem “I’ll Be There/Ain’t No Mountain,” the group brings their audiences down memory lane with concept production numbers that only Music & Magic can dish out.
KEVYN LETTAU. Also joining the festival is Ms. Kevyn Lettau, world-renowned Brazilian jazz singer and former vocalist of Sergio Mendez & Brazil ’88, who considers herself “an adopted daughter of the Philippines” having performed in numerous concerts in the country for the last 20 years and having been featured, along with her hit song “Sunlight” in a Philippine Airlines commercial in 2003.
CHEESA is a Filipino-American Pop/R&B singer and songwriter most noted for her run on NBC’s The Voice in 2012 where she was chosen by Cee Lo Green, mentored by Babyface, and made it to the Quarter-Finals. The Voice provided Cheesa her first experience performing as a solo artist. After the season ended, she focused on developing her solo career and collaborated with fellow Filipina and international star Charice resulting in the release of the Asian iTunes chart-topping single, “I’m Not Perfect (featuring Charice)” a soulful power ballad advocating self-acceptance which reached #1 in Asia and #12 on the US Pop iTunes Chart. Following the success of her single, Cheesa released her debut studio album, “Naked,” in April 2013, which included “I’m Not Perfect” and a dubstep rendition of Britney Spears’s “Toxic.”
